Buckles
Buckles are primarily a fastener or clasp; designed to hold two loose ends together, such as on belts or straps. They also can take on a decorative or ornamental role. Those used for shoes and belts can be quite ornate in design, adding to the overall design of the garment to which they are attached. Suppliers Various scrapbooking companies are making products; Making Memories make metal Ribbon Charms, KI Memories produce them in their Icicle range in a variety of colours, shapes and sizes and Junkitz have a range of Bucklez and Rounderz for use with ribbons and twills. Home ideas You can find examples for your projects all around you. Back in time people used to cut them from old garments before they were thrown away, just in case they needed another one! Before you throw away a belt, pair of shoes or backpack, take look at the buckles adorning these items. These items, particularly if they were marketed towards our children, can have useful buckles holding straps together. Modern types Young girls these days have some very cute belts and the buckles on them can be quite pretty. When they grow out of these items, cut off the buckles before you throw them away. Add them to your layout, as another form of memorabilia, a snapshot of the type of clothing worn at a particular time of our lives. Mini books A buckle is also useful as a closure for a mini book or album. Make a belt with ribbons, twill or other material cut into a strip, and attach it to the buckle. The belt can then be wrapped around the book and held closed using the buckle. It also creates a decorative embellishment on the front of your book or album. Other types of buckles Haberdashery isles of some stores are a great source of products to use on layouts. In these sections you will not only find traditional buckles, but other buckle-type closures such as toggles, cord pullers, cord locks, plastic cam buckles, plastic side release buckles, front release buckles and “D” rings.
